Readiness for Quitting Smoking Assessment
Personalized cessation support — for Canadians ready to take the first step.
We built a confidential, evidence-based readiness assessment for a leading Canadian health charity — helping smokers and vapers identify their personal stage, motivations, and ideal quit pathway in under 2 minutes, then connecting them to tailored resources and support programs.

Over a Million Canadians Try to Quit Each Year — Most Without the Right Support.
Smoking and vaping cessation is not one-size-fits-all. Someone who is just beginning to explore quitting needs completely different support than someone mid-attempt. Without a way to identify where a person is in their journey, generic resources fail them — and most quit attempts do fail.
Existing cessation resources were one-size-fits-all. There was no accessible, digital way for Canadians to identify their current stage of readiness and receive resources matched to where they actually were in their quit journey.
The majority of smokers who attempt to quit do so without professional guidance. Without understanding their own readiness, motivation, and confidence levels, most attempts stall before they begin — or relapse within weeks.
The charity already had a strong suite of tools — quit planners, mobile apps, community programs, and a healthcare provider portal — but no single entry point to route users to the right resources based on their individual profile.
Smoking and vaping carry stigma. The tool needed to feel completely safe and judgment-free — a low-barrier entry that anyone, at any stage of readiness, could complete with confidence and without embarrassment.
Meet People Where They Are. Then Guide Them Forward.
We built a confidential readiness assessment that identifies each user's stage and personal profile — then connects them directly to the resources and support programs most likely to help them succeed.
A 1–2 minute, no-judgment questionnaire that profiles each user across four dimensions: current nicotine use patterns, motivation for change, confidence and readiness levels, and individual timeline and goals — giving the engine everything it needs to personalize their experience.
Assessment results map each user to one of five defined stages: Exploring, Thinking, Getting Ready, Taking Action, or Staying on Track. Each stage unlocks a tailored set of resources, messaging, and next steps — so the experience feels personal, not generic.
The assessment connects users directly to the charity's broader support ecosystem — including the Quash quit-smoking app, The Loop peer community, quit planning tools, and a healthcare provider portal — routing each user to the resources matched to their stage and profile.
To build motivation and reinforce commitment, the tool presents a clear, evidence-based timeline of the physical health improvements that begin within hours of quitting — from normalized carbon monoxide levels to a 50% reduction in heart disease risk within one year.

A Smarter Starting Point for Every Quit Journey.
Canadians can now complete a confidential readiness assessment in under 2 minutes and immediately receive stage-appropriate resources, support, and next steps tailored to where they actually are in their quit journey.
The assessment acts as a smart router into the charity's full support ecosystem — connecting users to quit apps, peer communities, planning tools, and healthcare providers based on their individual profile rather than generic signposting.
The experience is fully confidential, stigma-free, and accessible — removing the barriers that prevent smokers and vapers from seeking support, and meeting them at every stage of the readiness spectrum, including "I'm not sure I'm ready yet."
"Build Me App understood the sensitivity of what we were trying to achieve. The tool they built doesn't just ask questions — it meets people where they are and makes them feel supported from the very first interaction."
